Running Accomplishments:

I have been running ever since my 7th grade year when I joined the junior high track team. When I made the move to High School I jumped right into XC and then to track. Had the opportunity to run at Nike Cross Regionals in Arizona with my team this last season. My PR's are: Mile- 4:54, 2 mile: 10:32, 800m: 2:13, 5K: 17:07, 400: 57 sec.

Short-Term Running Goals:

My goals for thie track season is to qualify for state in one of the three main distance events. I'm focusing on getting there for the mile with the rest of my team but would be happy with any that may come my way. 800m: 2:00, Mile: 4:26, 2 Mile: 10:05.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would love to run in college after high school but if that doesn't pan out then my goal is to stay active with running, maybe get into running half or full marathons.

Personal:

Diabetic Asmatic. Found out I had type-1 diabetes right before my first year running XC for my high school. I had asthma as a kid and it went away and recently came back last track season, I didn't find out about it until this last XC season so my PR's aren't quite where I want the to be. Once I began treating my asthma my PR for the 5k dropped by a minute so I'm excited to see how that translates to this track season. Member of Team Pre, follow us @team_pre on instagram!

8 mile distance run today, we ran it with an average pace of 6:32/mile and had some build ups when we got back to the high school. I was in a lot of pain throughout and had to break off of the group at mile 6, I was able to catch back up and run all of the build ups with them. Other than my legs being a little sore, it felt great to be getting some speed in.

First speed workout of the new year. We did 15 300m at goal mile pace for indoor track. As a group we were going for 51-56 sec. per each one. We had 30 sec. rest in between each one and did them in sets of three with a slow easy 800m jog inbetween each set. Averages for each set: 53, 54, 53, 54, 53. I began to have breathing troubles on the last two sets and had to skip the 800m jog inbetween to catch my breath. Overall felt pretty crappy about the workout but this is just the beginning.

Nice easy slow distance run. We kept the pace around 7 minutes per mile and held it for the whole 8 miles. It was good to get some rest in after some fast runs.

After our nice easy run yesterday our coach decided we should do tempo. Our range was 5:42-5:56 for 4 miles. Felt pretty good but not the best. Splits for the tempo was: 5:48, 5:48, 5:41, 5:56. Cooled down 3 more miles after that to get us to 9 miles total for the day.

9 mile easy distance run, made the mistake of going to chuck-a-rama for lunch and definitely felt it during the run. My average pace was 7.25/mile which was quite a bit slower from the tempo run that we had yesterday. Utah State tomorrow, can't wait to see where my training has brought me this far.

Went up to Utah State to run the 4x800 and the 1600 with some teammates. I ran a 2:16 800 and a 5:16 mile. I used my inhaler early on both of these races so it didn't help me as much as I was hoping for. Overall I'm happy with how this meet went but also look forward to crushing these times in a couple of weeks at BYU.

10 mile distance day today. We ran the warm up in the pouring rain then went inside and lifted a little bit. I squated 95 lbs. with reps of 8, and I did that 4 times. Sean, Brock, and I then went and ran 2 miles on the track while the rest of team pre lifted some more. After we were done with that we went out and ran 9 more miles in the rain to get us at a total of 10 for the day.

6×800's at two mile pace with 90 sec. rest inbetween. The weather was really crappy and after finishing the 3rd 800 I realized that the wind was making it that I couldnt breath. I talked to my coach and she told me to finish it on the bike. After finishing it I cooled down 2 miles with Brock and Sean.

Speed changes during our run today. We did 5 min. on 3 min. off, 4 min. on 3 min. off...all the way down to 1 min. on 3 min. off. We kept the pace at 5:30-5:40 for each one. I felt really good and was up in the front of the group. Definitely feel like I got some redemption after yesterdays run.

Nice easy slow run today. Coach wanted us to get some rest in after all the speed we have been doing lately, especially with doing something else on the track tomorrow. Started off in a big group but by mile 4 there were just 2 of us left, Thomas and myself. We finished off our miles without really increasing our pace too much throughout.

Sean, Matt, and I decided to run together this morning. While we were waiting for Matt, Sean and I pulled out our new spikes and did a mile of speed changes so we could start to break them in. Then when Matt showed up, he warmed up and then we left on our run. We ran up to airport (where we do hill workouts) and decided to do a hill workout by ourselves. We would run up the hill and a distanceish pace (.2 miles) and then we would run a loop around the cemetery. The whole thing together added up to be about .7 miles and we did that 5 times. My times for getting up the hill were: 1:30, 1:30, 1:26, 1:22, and 1:22. After finishing we ran back to the high school to finish out 8 miles. My average pace was 6:34/mile.

Met with Matt for our 9 mile distance run. We were both feeling pretty crappy so we started out really slow. We ran into the heart of American Fork, it started with a gradual uphill and then a gradual downhill, then we just ran back the same way. Our average pace was a 6:36/mile, our last few miles were 6:10 and below so it helped to average it out. Then later in the day we went on a bike ride with some of the girls on our team to loosen up our legs so they can be ready to run all the miles required for high week.

Speed workout, we did a 400 (30 sec. rest) then a 600 (1 minute rest) and then a 200 and we did that twice. The rest between the 400 and 600 were pretty killer and the wind didn't help that out much. Felt good for most of the workout, around the 600 of the second set I started having trouble breathing but was still happy with my time for it. Then we finished out our miles to get 9.

10 mile distance run to the Timpanogos temple. It was 4.5 miles there and 4.5 back, the first 4.5 were fairly slow because today was meant to be a recovery day. On our way back from the temple we picked up our pace and ended up with an average mile time of 6:52/mile. My legs hurt really bad today and I'm hoping they will feel a lot better tomorrow.

Was supposed to go 10 miles today but my legs couldn't take it. Today was a pre-meet day since we have a race tomorow. We ran 5 miles and then went back to the high school and ran 3 strides across the football field and then we did two 400's at goal indoor mile pace. My goal is to offically break 5:00 so i was supposed to get 75 sec. per lap. I felt good though and ended up getting 67 sec. on each one. Then we ran 3 starts to practice how we were going to race tomorrow. After completing that my legs couldn't take it anymore and so I stopped 3 miles short.

BYU indoor track meet, ran a 5:00 mile and then a 2:18 on my 800 meter run. The track was 325 meters and it tooke 5 laps to complete a mile. For the mile, I was slotted in at the 7th spot in my heat. I put my seed time in at 5:05 which was a good 10 sec. faster than what I did 2 weeks ago at Utah State. I didn't know what to expect since my legs were giving me so much trouble this week and I was also feeling pretty sick for the past two days. My plan was to run the mile and see if I could handle running the 800 as well. Anyways, Right off the bat I was in third place, right behind the leaders. I quickly determined to just stay right with them the whole race. Around lap two we got passed by 2 guys but we quickly were able to regain the lead. Our group of 3 slowly got bigger and going into the last lap the group had grown to 5 or 6 people. I kept with them as best I could but didn't have the best kick and I began to think too much and let my sickness get to me so I dropped back from 3rd and ended up getting 5th or 6th, I'm not really sure. I crossed the line at exactly a 5:00 mile which I was thrilled about. Offically this is now my PR (I ran a 4:57 at NXR) so I'm happy about it. My coach was way excited about it, especially after running a 5:15 last week. The 800 happened like 4 hours later so Connor, Justus, Thomas, and I got some more miles in to waste some time. I was seeded 10th in my 800 heat and I was a little worried. There were 13 of us and I didn't know how I would stack up against the other runners. I started the race right behind the guy who was seeded 2nd (1st didn't show up) so I knew that I would have a good start, I was wrong. He was slow off of the line and I had to push him to keep myself from running into him. We got around to the 200 meterish mark and I realized that we were going way to slow. I was in 3rd at the time and quickly sped on by the two leaders to take the lead. I held that for a lap and then I completely died. I got passed by one guy, and then another and the distance between us was too much for me to make up. I think I ended up coming in 3rd or 4th with a 2:18, it was definitely frustrating. I know that I could crush that time, so next week if I run it I am going to put my seed time in at like a 2:10 so I can be with people who can push me. Overall it was a pretty good day, I'm looking forward to next week when I can improve more on my times.

I have been sick over the past few days and this morning I woke up with a horrible cough, throughout the day i wasn't breathing too well and I especially wasn't breathing very well during the warm up. 5X500 speed workout out. We did each 400 at goal indoor 800 pace and then sprinted from there until we hit 500 meters. My splits for the 400's were: 66, 67, 68, 69, 69 or something like that, I didn't quite get the for real accurate splits. We had 4 minutes of rest inbetween so that was nice. I didn't have my bandana to go over my face today so it was pretty hard to breath (being sick didn't help that either) but I survived and am happy with how it went. Then we did 5 miles to finish up our miles at 8. Our average pace for the cool down was 7:50/mile.

Did pre meet with Matt today. We started out by going 5 miles with Connor and Jacob and then when we went back they both left and Matt and I hit the track for some 200's/400's. I did the 400's because I am running the 3200 tomorrow at the meet. I did the first 400 at 72 sec. and the second was 75 sec. They were supposed to be at goal indoor 3200 pace so I was a little fast but that's how pre meet usually goes so I am not worried. Had to go to work so I had to stop after that and only got 6 miles in. I am planning on going over miles tomorrow to make up for it. Average pace for the run was 7:09/mile.

I ran the 3200 today at the ice oval. I ran 2 miles in the morning before I left and then when I got there I ran a mile with Sean and Matt on the track. I got there way early because I hitched a ride with Matt so I was sitting for a lot of the day. I checked my sugar levels after running the mile with Sean and Matt and my levels were 400+ which if you didn't know, is really really bad. I ended up having to change my site at the meet so that I could get the insulin in me. It took a few hours but my levels eventually went back down in the 100's so I was better. If they would've stayed that high I wouldn't have been able to race, which would've made my pretty mad. We warmed up for the 2 mile way too early and were stuck sitting around for over an hour waiting for it to be our turn. There were some bikes next to us so we spent some time on there keeping our legs warm. I was in the same heat as Matt and Colin. We started the race at a weird spot because the track is more than a 400 and it was only 7 laps from the finish line instead of the usual 8. It was pretty hard to know what you were on pace for so I just tried to stay at a consistent pace and to keep passing people. My first mile was under 5:10 I think, I can't really remember but I wasn't really gaining on anyone and no one was gaining on me. With about 3 laps to go I felt like I was getting passed by a lot of people (it was only like 2) so I told myself that I was just going to go and I didn't care what happened. From there I kept pushing my pace until there was about a lap to go. I was in a group of 3 at that point and I was just trying to stay with the group. Our group began to disperse and I passed on of them. Coming around the 200 mark I really started to go, the guy who I had just passed, passed me back with a little over 100m to go and I immediatley kicked past him. I then passed another guy, and another and I realized that I was having a great kick. Matt was a little ways ahead of me so I put it in another gear and sped by him and finished less than 1 sec. ahead of him. I ended up passing 4-5 people in my final kick. I went over to my coach and she told me that I looked pretty conservative during the race (which I agreed with). I plan on running it again in 2 weeks at the same place to see what I can get. Overall I was very happy with getting a 10:32. My last time running it in track I got 11:30 and during XC one of my splits was a 10:50 so I pr'd by a lot. After my race we went on a cool down. Matt got 11 miles before I did so I ran a little further with Connor and Sean so that I could get the same amount.

10 mile run today. I was in the worst pain I have ever experienced while running before. For miles 1-6 I was limping and was unable to stay with the group. The pain went down my left leg through the run and around mile 7 my foot completely fell asleep. At that point the pain started to go away and I was able to stick with the group. Speed workout today. We did 2x1000, 2x800, and 4x400 at indoor goal 3200 pace. My legs were way tired today and my asthma was giving me a lot of problems so I wasn't getting what I wanted to get. I was able to stay with the group on the 1000m ones but I couldn't stick with them on the 800's which kind of sucked. I wore a bandana during the 800's so by the end of the 400's I was able to stick with the group once again. After we were done we finished up our miles and ended up getting 8 for the day. Average pace for the cooldown was 7:17/mile. Connor and I went and did some core after that.

Another speed workout today. We warmed up and then ran a mile to the cemetery. We ran 4x200, 400, 200 up the gradual hill that we usually do whistle hills on. The 400 and the second 200 were short but running uphill made up for it. We did each of them at goal indoor mile pace. My plan was just to go fast and save some for the end. Around the end of the 3rd set I realized that I had too much energy so I turned it up a gear and got quicker for the last set. For the last set I was contending for the lead (with practically everyone else) and it felt great. On the final 200 I was able to beat everyone which doesn't mean anything but it was a good confidence boost. We were all really dead after that and had a nice slow cool down to get our miles to 8. I went to Jujitsu later that night and it helped to loosen up my legs which were really sore so I was very happy for that.

Once again, another speed workout. This one was on the track and it was 4x400's at mile pace, 6x200 at 800 pace, and 4x100 as fast as you could. I did the 200's at the 100's in my spikes which felt great. I was able to stick with the pack through the whole workout and overall felt really good with how it went. My times for the 400's and the 200's were 72, 69, 69, 69, 32, 32, 31, 32, 31, 32. I was able to stay consistent which was my main focus for the workout. After we were done we went and cooled down 5 miles to get our daily total to 8 miles. Our pace for the cooldown was 7:16/mile. After that Connor and I went and benched a little and then did some core. Then after that we played basketball in the gym for a good 30 minutes which helped to loosen up my really sore legs.

Speed changes out on the road. We did 12 x 1 minute on, one minute off at mile pace. Somebody also surged for 5 sec. during it and we all had to try and stay with them. I was able to hold on for a good 4 of them and then disaster struck. The pain and soreness in my legs became unbearable and I was having trouble breathing. #6 was my turn to do the surge and I didn't think I could do it, but my teammates made me (which I was glad about). After #6 I fell way behind and didn't make contact with them until we were done. Then we had to run 4 and a half miles which literally almost killed me. We stopped at Willowcreek for a break and then I practically limped back to the High School. I was definitely happy to get today overwith after a horrible workout like that.

After that Sean and I went and ran a couple of miles and went back and did premeet. I ran 2 400's, the first one was like a 68 sec. and the second one was a 70 sec. Sean and I were worried about the 70 sec. one but it turned out everyone was getting around that time so we felt better about it after. Then Connor roped me into running another one with him and I was able to get a 67 sec. on it. After we were done with that Matt and I went and ran 5 more miles to get my distance to 9.5. My legs weren't feeling the best but I was still able to pull off a new PR and got 4:54! This is my first official time breaking 5 minutes in the mile (my watch told me I got a 4:57 at Nike Cross Regionals during XC). I told my coach that my legs felt horrible so she recommended that after I cooled down I should elevate my legs, so I did. They were feeling better but I was just not mentally there while waiting the three hours until the 3200 would start. I warmed up 2 miles with Sean and felt better but still wasn't feeling very good. I ended up getting a 10:44 and that's all I'm really going to say about it, it was horrible. After I cooled down a mile on the track with my teammates to get my miles up to 9.

What a great workout today. We were warned yesterday that we were going to have a killer workout today and it didn't fail to disappoint. We ran 90 sec. up aiport hill (local workout hill) as fast as we could. Each time up was a little more than 400 m. We had a nice slow jog going down the hill between each time running the hill. We did that in sets of 3 and then we would do a slow jog around part of the cemetery. We ended up doing a total of 3 sets. The first set I pushed it pretty hard and even won one of the sets. During the second set I tried to just cruise and was successful for the most part. Then I went all out for the last set. I finished in 3rd behind Ryan and Matt for all but one of the sets so I was happy with that. After we were done we jogged back to the high school and got our daily miles to 10.

After our workout yesterday, Jaimie decided for today to be a rest day which was welcomed by all of us. She wanted us to work on form today also though so we ran 3 miles before and then met back up at the high school to do speed changes around the football field like earlier this week (we went 6 times around). I felt great on the first 4 but by the 5 and 6th ones I was in a lot of pain. Jaimie videoed us running and then showed us what could be improved on our form. We then went and ran 5.75 miles and got up to 10. Then, later I went and played basketball with some adults from my ward. I am tired beyond belief at the moment and look forward to the ice bath that I am about to go and take.

Easy 10 mile distance run today. We started out with a little bit of ab work and then we immediately went out on our run. We went out 4.5 miles and then turned around and headed back. Brock and I were a good 100 m behind the rest of the group for the first half of the run, we were both not feeling the best and decided to keep our pace around 7:00/mile. For the second half we were able to stay with the group and ended up getting an average pace of 6:53/mile.

10 mile "run with Matt." We decided to meet at his house to go run, and we were planning on a fast run, but I was not as ready as I was expecting. We started by running a warm up mile in like 7:50 and then after stretching immeditatly went into 6:15 pace. I held that for a mile and then died. Matt was a good mile ahead of me for most of the run which was pretty discouraging but I was still able to to hold a 6:38/mile pace through the whole thing. My legs were super sore and went numb towards the end so I was very happy to be done. I'm not surprised that my legs hurt so bad though, I mean, I did just run 60 miles this week.

We did 1 minute on, 1 minute off 10 times at mile/2 mile pace. For the final 5 seconds of each "on" we would surge. My legs hurt  really bad from the start but was still able to hold with the group for the first 4 or 5. After that my legs just couldn't take it anymore and I dropped off quite a bit. After we were done we slowly crawled back to the high school (we were running into the wind the whole way back). I iced my legs and so hopefully they will be feeling better by tomorrow.

Today was another 8 mile easy day with a little bit of weights. We did the weights first and only had time to bench until Sean had to leave, so at that point we all went with him and got out on our run. We ran a big loop that included killer hill, so that was pretty tough but it didn't end up being as bad as I was expecting. Icing my legs yesterday helped my legs a lot today, my legs still hurt way bad, but unlike yesterday, I was able to get through the pain without falling behind the group. I iced again today and am hoping to have them feel even better then they did today.

Speed workout today. We did a 3X 200 (800 pace), 400 (mile pace), and 200 (800 pace) with 45 seconds inbetween each one and 3 minutes rest (or something like that) between each set. I felt great through the whole thing and was able to hang out with the pack. Our first set was a little slow but we figured it all out by the second and third. The wind was pretty ridiculous so when we had to run into the wind it was pretty killer. My asthma really kicked in during the last 400 and 200. I was still able to somehow pull off the 400 in 73 sec. though so I was pretty pleased with that. After we went out to get the rest of our miles which sucked really bad. We ran through the creek and took a long break there. Then we ran around until we hit the rest of our miles. My legs hurt pretty bad during the cool down but it wasn't enough to stop me today (thankfully).

Short lifting workout before our run. I slacked pretty bad for some reason and was able to get the squats with weight done but that we pretty much it. I talked to my coach about my shins and I may have shin splints forming so she told me ways to treat it and recommended that I do a cross train day on the bikes either today or tomorrow. I chose tomorrow so that hopefully my legs won't hurt too bad and I'll be able to run anyways. Connor, Chicken Nugget, Austin, Brady and I then went out on our run. Brady's knee was hurting pretty bad so he cut off pretty early. The rest of us ran out by thanksgiving point until we got to the point where we could turn back. Average pace for the day was 7:00/mile. My legs hurt pretty bad after that and so I iced them to try and get them to relax. Hopefully my legs feel good tomorrow.

As you can see from my mileage, my legs were pretty beat up. I did some exercises for my shins right before I went to bed and was still feeling it pretty bad in the morning. I decided right there that I was going to bike. So I warmed up and then all of us injured people went inside to the stationary bikes and warmed up for 10 minutes and then did 8x 30 sec. standing, 30 sec. hovering the seat, and then 2 minutes of sitting. The first few sets burned pretty bad but by the end it didn't hurt too bad. After Brock and I cooled down for 10 more minutes and decided to do abs. We grabbed medicine balls (mine was 8 lbs.) and did 3x 50 russian twists and 30 sit ups while on the ab machines. I then decided my abs weren't worked enough so I did 3x 60 sec. planks on both my sides and front. I felt pretty accomplished at that point and was about to leave when Austin asked if I wanted to do that dirty 30 (or something like that). I had no idea what that was so he explained that you do 30 sit ups 30 sec. rest, 29 sit ups, 29 sec. rest...etc. For some reason I agreed to do it. It was Austin, Ryan, and I for the first few and then Alicia and Emily joined us at about 27 sit ups. I could definitely feel the burn and expect a 10 pack in the morning. I plan on running tomorrow at a nice slow pace (probably with my brother in law). Awesome week next week, I'm definitely looking forward to how tired I am going to be this time next week! #speedworkoutsfordays

I wasn't quite sure if I was going to be able to get all my miles in this morning. I woke up and my shins hurt pretty bad, but I tested it out while running and they felt fine so I decided to give it a shot. I wasn't able to run until later in the day and to my surprise, there was a full on snow storm outside. It was pretty cold but I was still able to get all my miles in. I went fast, maybe a little too fast, but with not running yesterday I had a lot of energy and my legs felt fine. I was able to hold a 6:20/mile pace for the whole run so I was pretty happy with it.

Low easy distance run to prepare for Awesome Week this week. We were supposed to go 8 but my legs weren't feeling it today. So i decided to run 6 miles and then I went and biked for 15 minutes to simulate running for that amount of time. My legs felt great after so I'm hoping they still feel good after the dream mile and a half tomorrow. I iced my legs a little when I got home so we will see what happens.

Today was the dream mile and a half, also known as the widow maker. It's a mile and a half race straight up hill that you do as fast as you can. Seniors didn't have school today so Sean, Matt, and I met in the morning and ran 4 miles so we wouldn't have to run anymore after we finished the actual workout. I felt great and my shins only hurt a little bit and then when we were about less then .25 left I got this bad cramp and was struggling to breath so I had to stop to catch my breath. I gained it back after a few minutes and was able to make it back without dying. Then at 1 pm after a crazy snow storm, our team met up and ran the dream mile and a half. We went pretty slow up over the overpass so most people's times were slower but i was able to get 5 seconds faster than the last time we ran it so I was pretty happy (9:34). Then we slowly ran back to the high school. I ran a half mile on the turf when I got back and then went and biked for 15 minutes just because. I tried doing abs but was only able to get 60 sit ups and 100 russian twists before my abs hurt to bad (I was using the ab machine), I was hurting from that last ab workout I did more than I thought.

5x500m at 800 pace. What we did was run the 400 on pace for your goal 800 pace and then give it all you got for the final 100. It was pretty rough today but I was still fairly happy with how I did. I was able to finish it without dying which was pretty good. I was feeling pretty horrible when we were finished and our 6:49/mile recovery didn't help, we have whistle hills tomorrow so hopefully that'll go better.

Whistle hills at the cemetery. For whistle hills we run up a gradual hill as fast as we can for 15, 20, and then 25 seconds. Our rest was the time it took to get down to the bottom and then we would go again. We did that 3 times. I was in the very front for the first set and felt good, but then for the second set I was more in 5th place, I was super tired and wasn't sure how I was going to finish. My shins also started hurting at that point so I was worried that they would get worse. The final set hurt pretty bad, but it went good. I was able to be up towards the front for them all. After we were done with that we went and cooled down 4 more miles to get our mileage for the day to 8. Super pumped for Morp tonight, not sure how I'll have any energy for it but I'm gonna give it all I got.

Final day of awesome week and we did 20x400's, we did them in sets of 5. The first set was 5k pace so I was hitting around 80 every time, inbetween those we had 45 sec. of rest. For the second set we did goal 2 mile pace and I was getting around a 75 for each of those, we had 60 sec. rest inbetween those. The next set was current mile pace and I think I was hitting around 72's for them (I can't really remember). For the final set we pretty much just had to give whatever was left and do goal mile pace. I consistently hit 69 sec. for each of them. I wanted to go faster but my legs were super tired from the dance last night and from all the speed that I did this week. We had breakfast after the workout today so we quickly ran 2 more miles to finish up our miles for the day. Overall I felt like I had a pretty good week, my shins aren't hurting nearly as bad so I'm very grateful for that. First meet is on Tuesday! It's only a duel meet but it'll be fun to get out there and race after a little bit off once indoor ended.

Shoutout to Tyler for getting his mission call to Jamaica today! I look forward to hearing him convert Usain Bolt! And also to Darin who got his call to Chicago, Illinois (that's where my sister is serving) spanish speaking!

AM- Met with Matt this morning and ran 6 miles. We didn't have school today so it was a perfect opportunity to go. We ran down by Thanksgiving Point and our average pace was a 7:24/mile. It was nice and slow but was perfect for us because we were both pretty tired and sore from our workouts last week.

PM- Went to the high school at like 3 to run premeet with the team. We warmed up and then ran 2x400's. I ran them way fast, my first one was a 64 and my second was a 66. While it would be sick, I doubt I'll be able to hold that for 4 laps tomorrow at my race. It was great to get out there and go fast though and it defintely got my hyped to race tomorrow. I cooled down and paced Sami on her 400's and ended up with 9.6 for the day. Then later on Emily Perschurt and I ran a slow 800 during the half of our high schools soccer game. My legs felt great and I'm sure they will feel even better once I ice and elevate them tonight.

Crazy good day of racing today! I was originally going to run the mile but at the last minute I put together a 4x4 team and decided to run the 800 and the 4x4. We ran a few miles before the meet to get some mileage in and then 2 miles to warm up for the 800. I was able to run the 800 in 2:13 which was a solid PR from the last time I ran. I was in the faster heat which made me a little nervous but it was definitely better that way. I was super tired after and just laid on the ground, then we had the genius idea to run the 2 mile to get some mileage in. We did it way slow which was nice but I was still super tired at the end. The 4x4 was immediately after that and I was anchoring. The people on my team ahead of me ran a 55, 57, and 57. When I got the baton we were in 2nd. Tanner Melior (who was supposed to be on my team) was out infront but I wasn't able to catch him. Lone Peaks team gained on me hard core and I was able to out kick him at the end to keep us in 2nd. My time was a 57 which was exactly what I was going for. I'm definitely way happy with how far my training has brought me and am looking forward to see what else I can do next week.

It was supposed to be a easy medium distance run but my legs weren't working for me today. I started out with the team fine but a pain kept shooting through my right leg every once in a while. I kept running through it and it started to feel a lot better. That all changed on mile 2 or 3 when a pain shot through and I almost fell down. Right there I decided I was just going to run 6 and then bike for 20 minutes. Austin was only going 6 too so we broke off and went over to killer hill and then ran back to the high school. We ended up running a little more than we were supposed to but I was fine with it since the mileage was so low. At the high school we biked for 20 minutes and my legs felt a little better after.

Ended up asking someone to prom today so that was fun. There was a lot of extra running around and I considered adding it to my mileage...but that wouldn't have been fair so I held back. I also had a last second interview with my Stake President about my mission papers and they are now offically in. So now the horrible wait for the call to come so I can see where I'm going to be spending my next 2 years!

Speed workout today. My legs hurt really bad during school today and I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to do the speed. They were feeling a little better at practice though so I decided to run as much as I could. It was super windy so I was a little nervous for that because it really messed up my asthma, so I had my bandana on to combat that. The workout was 3x400 (at mile pace), 800 (at 2 mile pace), and 400 (at mile pace). We had 90 sec. rest inbetween every one and 3 minutes inbetween each set. The first set went fine and I was able to get 70's on the 400's and 2:32 on the 800. The next set wasn't as good though, the first 400 went find but by the time I finished the 800 I couldn't breath at all. I somehow told my coach and she told me to sit out the next 400. I did and it helped a little bit but not much. I ran the first 400 of the last set in like a 73 or 74 and then dropped out after the first lap of the 800 because I was really struggling to breath. I still ran the last 400 which just about killed me. We then had to go finish up our mileage which was really rough. My legs weren't feeling to great and I was in quite the daze from not being able to breath. We took a bunch of stops which was nice and I only ran 4 miles after. I was supposed to go 6 but so that my daily mileage would be at 10 but it just wasn't happening today. I iced after my run so hopefully my legs feel better tomorrow.

I'm not sure how fast we did them or how accurate each 400 was. My legs were hurting pretty bad throughout the run even with the many long breaks that we took. Horrible horrible day today. When the mile came around we warmed up with Garek B. from East (he's kinda really fast) and then went over and got ready to race.  I was in the 2nd heat (it went fastest to slowest) with Matt. The race started out pretty well and I found myself at the head of the pack chasing a couple of guys who got out ahead. I tried to hold it but quickly realized that I couldn't breath. I kept telling myself just to hold on and I ended up getting a 5 minute mile. I was super pissed off about it but there's nothing that I really could've done. I warmed up with my bandana and used my inhaler before the race but the wind just didn't cooperate with my lungs at all. We then got some of us together and went and ran 3 miles as a cool down. When we got back I listened to my music in order to clear my head for the 4x800 that I was also running. I did like a half mile warm up for the race. I wanted to do more but I ran out of time. I was running 2nd behind Matt and then Brock and Colin were after me. At the last minute Brock dropped out and Tanner took his place. Matt wasn't feeling very good and ran a 2:19. Once I got the baton I could feel all the anger that was built up from my last race and I took off pretty fast. The guy infront of me had a pretty sizeable lead on me and it took the whole 2 laps for me to catch up and pass him. I ended up running a 2:15 which sucked but I was fine with it since I was super wiped out from everything I'd done that day. After we were done we only had like a half mile left so Matt and I cooled down around the school. Today sucked back and it definitely took a shot at my confidence. I'm in dire need of a good workout.

Recovery run today. I started out by running 1.25 as a warm up with Connor. I skipped the team warm ups in order to make sure my legs were completely warmed up because they were hurting pretty bad. Once out on our run my legs had a constant soreness and I didn't know if I was going to be able to finish the full miles. I was running the back with Sean and we ran up a hill which really spread the group out. We met up at the top where Sean told me that he was just running back because he was in so much pain. By this time the rest of the group had already left and I was alone. I started the process to catch up and ended up running a 6:20 mile shorten the gap. It took like a mile and a half to catch up but it felt great. Going that fast really loosened up my legs which helped me to get through the rest of the run. We got back and I ran a little more than a 200 with Connor while he was getting the rest of his miles. Today was a workout that I definitely needed, especially after my crappy day yesterday. I iced a lot when I got home in order to prepare for our 6 miles of tempo tomorrow. Average pace for the day was a 6:50/mile.

I held on pretty well for the first mile but my legs were killing me so I took a quick 10 second stop to stretch it and fell back behind the group. I was never able to catch back up and I went significantly slower throughout. I had to stop after each mile to stretch my legs which were hurting more than they ever had before. Then to top it all off I had a pretty nasty asthma attack and my diabetes levels were pretty low. For the last 2 miles of the tempo I just kept it at a 6:30. My average pace for the day was a 6:35/mile which isn't too bad when I look at how much pain I was in. I was very glad to be done when I got back and I'm just going to try and forget about this run.

Distance run today. I woke up this morning and was a little nervous about how my run would go after yesterday's disaster of a run. I decided to split up my miles mostly to let my legs really recover and hopefully relieve some of the soreness and pain that I have had to deal with. I started going, and except for a little bit of pain in my right leg, I felt great. I decided that I would just try and get as many miles as I could. I kept it nice and flat and only had to run down one hill which i took nice and slow. I took a break half way down it to stretch my legs because it was hurting pretty bad. That was my only stop except for the one to stretch after my first mile. I made it back alive and immediatly took an ice bath. My average pace was a 6:40/mile which was faster then I wanted to go but it just kind of happened. I'll be sure to rest up for these next two days in preparation for next week. This was a pretty horrible week for me, hopefully it will get better next week.

There were only 4 of us doing it so I was happy going a little faster to stay with them. My legs didn't hurt too bad during the workout but they gave me a few problems during the rest of our miles. I took an ice bath last night and it helped a lot, I really need to get back on track of icing every day. Met up on the bus at 6:00am so we could make it to the meet in time for my race. We stopped for lunch at 11ish but it was too close to race time at 1 so Sean and I ran a mile instead of eating. We got to the race and warmed up and I was feeling confident about what was going to happen. Sean, Thomas, and Ryan were all in the 2nd heat and I was in the 3rd. They did a weird alternating pattern where the girls would go and then the guys would go and it would go back and forth like that each race. I wasn't a fan. I had to wait a long time after my teammates ran which made it hard for me to stay focused. I ran around on the turf a little bit to stay loose until it was finally my turn. My first lap was like a 68 and then I held consistenly between a 72-74 for the whole thing (I could be wrong, I didn't wear my watch). My last lap was a 74 which was hard for me because I literally got passed by almost everyone in my heat. I crossed without anything left and saw my time as a 4:56 when I crossed. I was beyond pissed. My legs hurt like crap and I felt like I should've been able to go a lot faster. I talked to my coach after and she recommended that I get compression socks to help deal with the pain that I have been having in my legs for the past few weeks so I plan on getting that soon. I found out that my time was a 4:55 a little later which helped brighten my mood a little bit but not much. I ended up running a few more times and ended up getting a total of 7 miles for the day.

My mission call finally came today! Too bad I am in St. George though...

Distance run today and for some reason we decided to run up killer hill. We had a fairly good pace throughout the whole thing which hurt my legs pretty bad. We had a lot of stretching breaks and the run took a lot longer than I was expecting it to. I got some compression socks today to help deal with the pains that I have had in my legs for the past few weeks, I'm hoping that they will help my legs recover enough to have a good race this weekend at the Alpha Invitational.

THANK GOODNESS FOR COMPRESSION SOCKS! I wore my new socks during my run today and I felt so good, the pain that I have had in my legs was completely gone which made me super happy! We had a speed workout today, it was: 3x1200, with 3 minutes of rest inbetween, at goal 2 mile pace and then 3x200, with 60 sec. rest, at mile pace. I am running the 2 mile on Thursday at the Alpha Invitational with Chicken Nugget so me and him were the only ones doing this one. I was coming in on each 400 at around an 80. I'm confident that I will go faster than that during my race, I was just struggling to pace myself since I was running alone for each of them. When we ran the 200's we were ready to do them at the same time as all of the guys running the 800 and mile so we joined them. I ran a 31, 31, and a 30 which is a little faster than mile pace but I felt great and just wanted to go fast. We then finished up our miles which took a pretty long time but I didn't mind too much.

Horrible race and I have no interest in finding out my time. We warmed up 2 miles and then raced. I was ssuper upset after the race and didn't really talk to anyone except for coach Jamie. After talking to her I went on a 6 Mile run to burn off my frustrations. It was super windy so the conditions were bad but I knew I could do better and so it really got me down.

On vacation visiting some family for the week so I woke up early to get my run in. My legs were hurting pretty bad but as it went on the pain got better and I finished with a sub 6 mile. Mile splits for the run were 7:16, 7:01, 7:05, 6:52, 7:01, 6:35, 6:21, 5:43. It was pretty flat for the most part with the final 3 miles all with gradual downhills. I ran a 400 around where I'm staying to cool down. I elevated my legs when I was done and then rolled out a little bit.

AM-Was not feeling the best this morning so I decided to split up my miles. I ran 4.5 in the morning with an average pace of 6:50/mile. My legs hurt pretty bad but other then that I felt great. I had a slight asthma attack during the last mile of my run but it wasn't bad enough to make me slow down or stop so I was grateful for that.

PM-it had been raining on and off all day and I decided to go out on one of the odds to finish my miles. I got about 1.3 miles out and then I got hit with a huge downpour with rain and hail. I had my insulin pump with me which isn't water proof so I immediately starting running as fast as I could back to where I'm staying (5:48 mile). I dropped off my pump and started to go, my diabetes was bothering me a little but I was able to get back before I passed out which is a plus. I was soaked from head to toe but it was one of my favorite runs I've ever been on.

Speed workout today, I couldn't find an open track anywhere so I was forced to run around a park which was the worst idea I have ever had. The workout was 600, 500, 400, 300 at mile pace and then 300, 200, 100 at 800 pace. My knee had a pain shooting through on the 600 so I tried to run on the grass but it still hurt pretty bad. Then I went and just ran on a road. Not sure what my times were but they were slow. I ran a cool down of a couple miles and then iced my legs a little. Then I had the cool experience of running across the Golden Gate Bridge with my dad. Definitely a highlight in my running career. I started out pretty slow to run with my dad but then half way through I took off and ran 6 minute mile pace. I was hurting really bad when I was done and we walked around SF for awhile and that helped loosen up my legs. I elevated my legs too to help my legs recover for a killer workout tomorrow.

Percentage run today, I did 1 mile at 30 sec slower than goal mile pace, then immediately 1 mile at 1 minute slower than goal 2 mile pace, then back to 1 mile and 30 sec slower than mile pace. Then to top it off, half a mile with everything that I had left. I wasn't looking forward to it since my legs have been crap all week, but I was surprised how well they felt (still pretty bad but better than usual), my diabetes was way messed up too before I started but that didn't bother me much either. I warmed up 1.5 miles and then went straight into the workout. My splits were 5:28, 6:27, 5:33. I had an asthma attack during the workout which slowed me down a little but I just ran through it (don't know if thats the best idea) and didnt die somehow, so that was good. I then cooled down until I got 8, i was supposed to go 9 today but I forgot and only went 8.

Distance run today and I felt GREAT! I started out by warming up with a 7:05 mile and then for the next two I kept it around the same pace. I decided to run somewhere that I had never been in the hopes of getting lost and I succeeded. I ran around in circles until I got back to around where the High School was. All the California kids were on their way to school so a lot of people were staring at me so I decided to quicken my pace. I ended up running a 6:07 and then a 5:55. I felt super great and kept a sub 6:15 pace for my last few miles back to where I was staying. My average pace for the day was a 6:26/mile which I am very happy about. My legs didn't hurt too bad and it felt great to just get out and run fast.

Today was the day I had to say goodbye to California, which really sucked a lot. We left at 5:00 in the morning so I knew it was going to be rough to get my miles in for the day. We stopped for lunch in Elko and I ran a mile (6:38) to keep my legs fresh, and so I wouldn't have to run all 10 when I got home. I got home at around 6 and left for my run at 7ish. My first one was a 6:18 which was way too fast, and I knew it immediatly after I finshed. I had forgotten what it was like to not have a lot of air! I ran a big loop and ended up at the high school with 2 miles left and I was exhausted. I hadn't stopped since my warm up and was struggling to keep going. I laid on the grass at a church for a couple of minutes to recuperate and then proceeded to run the next mile at 8:00 mile pace. I felt so dead and then somehow ran a 7:18 for my last mile. My average pace for the day was a 7:01/mile. I kept it pretty consistent until that 8:00 one.

Being back was good, but I realized that there were some things that I missed and didn't, so I have decided to make a list:

Things I missed: the mountains, knowing exactly where I was

Things I didn't miss: People feeling obligated to yell/honk at me when they see me, the air

It's good to be back, but I will definitely miss not being able to just wake up and not have to worry about anything but running!

Matt, Connor and I skipped 4th period today to go run. We pulled a team together to do a 3 vs. 3 tournament (to prove that us XC guys can still ball) and we played during practice, so we decided to get our run in before. Matt and I warmed up a mile on the track while waiting for Connor to come out and then we went right on our way. We held a pretty good pace which was a 6:33/mile. I fell behind a little bit and then would catch up when we took breaks and I repeated that a few times. My legs were super tired and I was having trouble breathing, so I guess I haven't gotten quite used to the elevation yet. I'm planning on taking an ice bath tonight to help my legs recover a little more so I can have a good rest of the weekend.

We had a solid showing at our games and won the first one 22-6, we lost our second one however 22-12. Shoutout to Brady for scoring 10 of our 12 points that game, he really came through!

Ran up to aiport and did 6x60 second surges up the hill. It was really windy but it was to our backs which was nice. Then we finished our miles and after a short break at Sami's the wind had switch directions and got a lot more intense. Thomas and I decided to run back and face the wind but Matt and Connor just got a ride and finished later. I knew I wouldn't finish later so that's why I went, there were some serious garbage cans flying down the hills and most of them were going faster than us!

Matt, Brady, Connor, and I had a basketball game so we got out pretty late on our run. It had snowed liked crazy (yes snow!) and was all still there when we got out. We ran a mile on the track to warm up a little bit then went out on our run. We ran to AF on some roads that I had never ran on and ended up over by American Fork High School. We kept getting stopped by stop lights so we didn't really take any breaks while we were running on the back roads. Average pace was a 6:47/mile.

Warmed up a few miles slowly before my race and was feeling very confident, my goal was to break 4:50 and qualify for BYU. Sean, Thomas, and Matt were in the head before Jacob and myself so we watched as they ran. The wind was picking up pretty bad but none of us thought it was mess up our times at all, we were wrong. Sean came in at a 4:40, Matt somewhere over 5. My plan immediatly came to drafting as much as possible on the back stretch. I did that pretty well on the first 2 laps but then by the 3rd I was alone for that part. On my last lap I decided just to give it all which I struggle to do at races and found myself dead around the 200 to go mark. Zac Slater, a friend from PG, cruised past me and that immediatly put me back up to speed. I cruised in knowing that my time would suck and found out later that it was a 5:01. Not what I wanted but with the weather conditions I couldn't have expected much else. Ran a few times after that and got my miles up to 10. Today was the day, Senior Prom! I woke up in the morning and ran 6 miles and then my plan was to run 6 more after our day date. We went rappelling and we hiked a lot so my legs were pretty tired, but I still felt like I would be able to run. I ended up taking a short nap because I knew I still had a long day ahead of me. That short nap turned into a 3 to 4 hour nap and I ran out of time to run. Felt kinda dumb for letting myself sleep that long but I was pretty tired. Prom was a blast!

Found out that we have high mileage all week, and it didn't start off too well. It's been awhile since I elevated my legs or iced and we didn't really have a good warm up. My legs hurt from the start and I was expecting them to get better, I was wrong. I ran out 4 miles with Ryan and Brady and then turned back. I was in a lot of pain and then turned back because it got unbearable. I stopped a few times and even elevated my legs a minute and then somehow made it back. My feet were both full on numb at one point and I was really afraid I would mess them up. They woke up by the time I got back to the high school and so I biked for 10 minutes to help loosen them up. Later in the day I finished up 2 more miles and then iced my shins and elevated my legs. I think there is a speed workout tomorrow, my legs are primed and ready so I'm excited for a good workout.

We had quite the speed workout today. We warmed up four miles then braced ourselves to be tired out of our minds. The workout was 3 sets of 4x400. The first set was current mile pace, the second was a little faster, and the 3rd was whatever was left. We had 3 minutes of rest inbetween each 400 and then a 400 slow and 4 minutes inbetween each set. I was hitting around 70's for the first set and then my second set when 67, 68, 69, 67. My last set was straight 69's. We were all super exhausted afterwards and somehow managed to run a mile for a cool down. I kept having mini asthma attacks during each 400 and it took the whole 3 minutes to be able to fully breath again and then the same thing would happen again. It was pretty rough but I was happy with what my times were and the fact that I never went over 70.

Well, i didn't get it and I'm pissed. I started out great, running a 68, then a 74. On the second lap I began to die so I was relieved when Zac Slater (a friend from PG) surged by me, I stuck on his tale and it helped me from falling off too much. Come the 3rd lap I let him get away from me and ended up running a 77...The moment I saw that on my watch I knew I was introuble and gave it all I got for the last lap. I think it ended up being a 74 and I ended up with a 3 second pr. Super bummed not to be running at BYU next week, but I'll get over it. I wasn't able to run the 2 mile because I had a date at 7 and it got delayed because of lightning. I drove home and did a fast 4 mile run in the rain to burn off some energy. I ended up getting locked out of my house and had to run an extra mile to go get keys so ended up getting a mile more than I was supposed to, but I didn't mind.

My boosts have just about officially died. These shoes wore down way fast so it's sad to see them go. I ordered new ones today and decided not to get boosts this time. I have gotten them for the last two and they both just didn't last so I am trying out some Brooks (I have had good experiences with them in the past). I felt great today and was looking forward to my run, but it didn't turn out good at all. I had a practice AP test after school so I was pretty mentally exhausted and felt like a run would be good. Long story short I ended up having an asthma attack and a diabetic attack. I somehow made it back home alive and just called it a day.

Had the opportunity of doing a speed workout since I won't be running at BYU this weekend. The workout was 4 sets of 3x300 at mile pace. We had 1 minute of rest in between each 300 and 3 minutes of rest between each set. Most of Team Pre is running this weekend (obviously) so I was doing it with mostly JV guys, and Brad (returned missionary who used to be on the team).  I used my inhaler right before we started and then went all out. I was pretty upset with the fact that I'm not running at BYU, so I used that to fuel me, and with not a lot of miles this week I was feeling fresh. I won the first one by a lot and was concerned that I was going too fast. Brad counseled everyone not to push it too much on the early ones, but I was just going for it. I forgot my watch at home so I had no idea what I was getting, so I just tried to stay feeling consistent. I put on the workout sheet that I had a 49 sec. average for each one which I was happy with. I was the leader for everyone so that was kind of weird. I had some mini asthma attacks throughout and used my inhaler a lot more than I was planning on, but it all turned out for the best. I was super wiped out by the end so my cool down with Chicken Nugget was pretty rough, but at the end of the day I felt good about the workout, so that's all that matters.

We began our taper for region today. I figured it would be like 7 but when Jaimie told us 6 I was total disbelief, 6 miles feels like nothing compared to the miles we have ran this year. Connor and Madi had 800 repeats and Jaimie had us pace them so we could get our legs going a little. We all took turns pacing them for their 800's. After we only had 4 more miles so we ran to my house where I grabbed my new shoes and then ran back.

Region is on Wednesday and Thursday and I am super pumped. I was originally just going to run the 2 mile but Jamie put me into the mile at the last second as well. It's supposed to rain but I'm not going to let that stop me from getting some pr's this week!

Been awhile since I posted on the blog so I decided to update and explain what's happened the past few weeks on my running. Region went horrible, both my races were filled with asthma attacks so we will have to see if I ever go and put those races in, I'm not planning on it. Last week I totaled about 9 miles..it was a pretty lazy week but it felt good to not have to run and to keep my legs rested. Went and watched state which was pretty sick! Shoutout to everyone who ran there especially @connorballer, he killed it.

As for my run today, I started by running through the creek and then  I ran up the hill that's parallel to the one that leads to Eaglecrest. I then made a right and made a loop out by Smith's and then came on home. Not running for real in a couple weeks made the run pretty hard but I was still somehow able to hold a 6:43/mile pace through the whole thing. I had to take a few stops because I was having breathing troubles but overall am pretty happy on how it went.

Wasn't feeling very good today and my throat was on fire which made it pretty hard to breath. I took a bunch of breaks and at the end just laid on my driveway for a good 5 minutes. I kept waiting for my legs to start hurting by they never did which was way nice. I found it pretty easy to breath up until the last half mile which was nice too.
